We are Helen and Alan Say and we are the founders and co-directors of CBL Copywriting & SEO.

Our mission is to “de-mystify” everything to do with SEO and bring it alive for micro-, small- and medium-sized businesses.

SEO has always been – and still is – the most cost-effective marketing channel for any small business with a limited budget. So our aim is to help you get better value from your website marketing by practical, honest and cost-effective means.

We will help you get seen on Google and other search engines and recover the ground usually occupied by companies with dedicated teams and unlimited budgets. It can be done, even if you feel that your resources are limited, and your current levels of SEO know-how are non-existent.

Helen Say

I’m a professional copywriter and I’m different from most other copywriters you may meet for two main reasons:

First, my long career in direct and digital marketing, working for some of the UK’s best-known brands such as Nationwide Building Society, T-Mobile, O2, Vodafone, Tesco, and Canon. This taught me the importance of brand positioning and tone of voice when it comes to speaking directly to your customers. Copywriting is all about persuasion, and I’ve spent most of my life thinking about words that will persuade a target audience to do things you want them to do.

Second, I’m a certified Google SEO Marketer, which means not only will I create the copy that persuades your customers to do the things you want them to do, I’ll do it in ways that makes sure search engines like Google sit up and pay attention. Your copy will be both compelling and optimised to get you the maximum results.

I’ve written hundreds of online articles for websites, blogs, product pages, social media and emails, all with the human target market in mind and an eye on what search engines look for. I use a comprehensive briefing process to really get to know you, your business, your objectives, who you want to reach and what you want to say to them. Alan Say

I’ve had a long career in sales and business development, so I’ve learned a thing or two about how to grow a business. Plus I’ve also owned and operated a franchise, so I’m very well aware of the pressures that are on business owners day in day out to deliver results, often by themselves and on a shoestring budget. You don’t want to be distracted from your core business and I understand that – I’ve been there! My sales background means I know all about finding out what people need most and providing the solutions that fit their problems.

I’m also a certified Google SEO Marketer and my role at CBL is to deliver the SEO services to small businesses who can’t justify big agency rates. From short SEO Health Checks to full point-by-point SEO audits and website reviews, I will tell you what’s working on your website, what’s not, and provide you with a full action plan for fixing it.

Guide Dogs for the Blind – Sponsor a Puppy

Having witnessed first-hand the difference a guide dog can make to a person’s life, we are pleased to support the Sponsor a Puppy initiative from Guide Dogs for the Blind. We currently sponsor Cookie, an adorable German Shepherd puppy who is in his first year of training.

The Hospice of St Francis Berkamstead

Hospices play a vital role in our communities. Our local Hospice of St Francis helps over 2,000 people every year, affected by life-limiting illness, to live their precious lives well. We are members of the hospice Corporate Partner Network and regularly take part in fundraising events.
